Project Ndassie Light |
||
Yele is a small village with about 5000 inhabitants located in the centre of Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is a West African country with years of civil war history. Because of the lack of electricity, Yele has a difficult time developing and reaching economical growth. Providing electricity to the entire community through implementation of the Ndassie Light, a handy, portable lamp, will be a first step that increases opportunities for economical growth and well-being. The technology used for this product is straightforward. It consists of a charging device and a luminance device. The Luminance Device consists of a battery and a light. The Ndassie light aims at improving adults’ literacy and the education of children. The concept is income generative for local population in general and women in particular. Furthermore it will reduce carbon emission and deforestation. |

Making the electricity available at one central place to stimulate industry and economic activity. In cooperation with Delft Centre of Entrepreneurship SIFE Delft will select 5 successful business ideas to implement in the Community Bazaar, for example: a shop which sells cooled drinks, welding equipment, an automatic saw for a carpenter, or a station to recharge lamps. Furthermore, SIFE Delft will be responsible for the development of the business model and the physical design of the market place. Under supervision of the Lion Heart Foundation, locals will be involved in running the Community Bazaar. |
